Often the coil eye is unprotected, the oversized wrapping material will be pressed into the coil eye but it never protects the full coil eye against damage and corrosion.

Handling and transportation gives mechanical damage to the coil eye. During transportation and storage there will be approximately 0,2 liter of condensate created into the coil eye, this goes down along the windings. Through capilar working the condesation soaks into the winding.
